An engineer’s take on global warming and design

Sustainable design is an inescapable topic if you’re connected with the building industry in any way in current times. I’ve written posts about the topic before and frequently come across interesting information by various architects and designers.

However, Thomas Auer’s perspective on the subject is refreshing and convincing. He presents several fantastic projects he’s been a part of, among them the office tower for Manitoba Hydro in Canada which is considered one of the most energy efficient high rise buildings in North America.

Hats off to this mechanical engineer who believes daylight, convection, and passive solar are the tools we will need to get our buildings off fossil fuels. Rather than coming on board towards the end of the design process (as it happens in many cases) Thomas Auer works hand in hand with the architects with the aim of creating beautiful and energy efficient buildings!
